Carotid artery surgery, also known as carotid endarterectomy, is a procedure to remove plaque buildup from the carotid arteries. This surgery is performed to reduce the risk of stroke in individuals with significant blockages in these arteries.

During the surgery, the surgeon makes an incision in the neck, opens the carotid artery, and removes the plaque. The artery is then closed with stitches, and blood flow to the brain is restored. This procedure is typically recommended for individuals with symptoms of carotid artery disease or those at high risk of stroke due to severe blockages.

Carotid artery surgery is considered a preventative measure to reduce the risk of stroke and improve overall vascular health in individuals with significant carotid artery blockages.

Carotid artery disease occurs when the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain, become narrowed or blocked due to plaque buildup. This narrowing restricts blood flow to the brain and increases the risk of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA), also known as a mini-stroke.
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that often appear on the legs. They can be blue, red, or flesh-colored and may bulge out from the skin. Varicose veins develop when the valves in the veins weaken or fail, causing blood to pool and the veins to stretch.
Aneurysms in the aorta occur when a part of the body’s main artery, the aorta, weakens and bulges outward like a balloon. This bulging area can become larger over time and may pose a risk of rupture, which can be life-threatening.
